What is Chambray?
Chambray is a light and comfortable fabric, often compared to jeans for its similar appearance, but with a much finer and light structure. Traditionally, the Chambray is woven from a colorful, generally indigo chain wire, and a white frame wire, which gives it its slightly found characteristic appearance. Although blue is the most common color, there are also black, coral, green, and red variants, thus offering a wide range of choice for various sewing projects.
The Chambray is mainly composed of Baumwolle, Which makes it a breathable and pleasant to wear fabric. Its non -extensible structure (unless it contains elastane, which is rare) makes it an excellent choice for summer clothes or parts requiring a certain outfit without being too rigid. This fabric is highly appreciated for its ease of sewing, because it does not slide and goes back easily, making visible and clear all stitching or folds.
What to sew in Chambray?
The Chambray of Baumwolle is perfect for light and summer sewing projects. Here are some ideas for what you can do:
- Shirts : Chambray is ideal for relaxed or western style shirts.
- Dresses : Create light dresses, perfect for hot days.
- Pants : Opt for mid-web pants that combine comfort and style.
- Jackets : Ideal for spring or summer jackets, offering a casual but neat look.
- Accessories : Bags, kits, pockets and other accessories can be made with Chambray, and reinforced if necessary.
- Interior decoration : Use the Chambray for cushions, curtains, or other decorative elements, bringing a casual chic touch to your interior.
Chambray is also an excellent choice for patchwork and zero waste projects, where each small piece of fabric can be reused to create something new and unique.
How to sew the Chambray?
The Chambray is a particularly suitable fabric for sewing beginners thanks to its ease of handling. Here are some tips for sewing this fabric successfully:
- Preparation : Wash and always iron your Chambray before cutting it to avoid any unexpected narrowing after making.
- Face choice : The two faces of the Chambray are often exploitable, one being clearer and the other darker. You can play on these shades for two -color effects or simply choose the one that best suits your project.
- Samples : Machine testing to determine the best point settings. The stitching can add a very trendy "jeans" style to your creations.
What is Oxford fabric?
The Oxford fabric is another classic fabric, recognized for its characteristic weaving in Panama, where two intertwined chain wires pass over and under a thicker frame wire. This weaving gives the Oxford fabric a soft but robust texture, slightly less shiny than the Chambray. Although traditionally associated with dressed shirts, the Oxford fabric is also versatile and can be used for a variety of clothing and accessories.
Oxford fabric applications and uses
The Oxford fabric is perfect for formal or semi-formal shirts, often with a buttoned collar. It is also used for blouses, skirts, pants, and even casual sports outfits. Its robustness also makes it ideal for accessories such as bags and backpacks, bringing a touch of relaxed sophistication to these articles.
